Get To Know These Vegan Bloggers And Their Biggest Challenges

They told us about their reason to blog, and the obstacles that stand in their ways.

The vegan community is constantly growing, which makes it easier to find good vegan recipes and replace some old habits.
Vegan and cruelty-free blogs are also becoming more and more popular, posting about food, cruelty-free fashion, and friendly destinations to see with restaurant recommendations.

These seven bloggers are running vegan blogs and creating cruelty-free content. They told us what was their main reason to blog, and what are the obstacles that stand in their ways (we already know what is the biggest challenge in blogging…)

So, let’s get to know them better…

Allie G., From Luna Vida

Location: San Diego, CA

Why did you start blogging?

At the time I had recently graduated from college and was looking for a creative outlet. Most blogs at the time featured products that were way out of my price range so LunaVida originally started out as an affordable fashion blog. It’s now grown to include my vegan lifestyle, travels, cruelty-free beauty, etc.

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

I have a day job, and it can be hard to juggle posting on a regular schedule when the 9 – 5 gets extra busy.

What is your favorite post?

My favorite post is Why I Decided To Adopt A Vegan Diet + Lifestyle

And why?

Because it’s when I officially announced my decision to transition from vegetarian to vegan. Sharing my passion for plant-based living has become my favorite topic to write about!

Nina Bolders, Fly Me To The Vegan Buffet

Location: Berlin, Germany

Why did you start blogging?

I have been living and traveling as a vegan flight attendant for 10 years and want
to share my experiences and present vegan options regarding food, fashion,
traveling and lifestyle to those who are interested.

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

At first, all that technical stuff was hard for me to figure out.

And why?

Because of how much easier traveling has become for me now that I know them 🙂

Sophie and Paul, Vegan on Board

Location: Cambridge, UK and a camper van around Europe

Why did you start blogging?

On our travels, in our campervan, we started to write down the recipes of all the delicious vegan food we created on the road. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, we also discovered a love of foraging and passion for sustainable food. And so the idea for a vegan campervan cooking blog was born. We finally took the leap into the blogging world in September 2018 to document our Food Waste Challenge, where we lived entirely on food that would otherwise be thrown away to raise money for charity and inspire others to reduce food waste. Our project was a great success, raising over £1000 pounds for food waste projects and our story was shared around the world. What a way to start a blog!

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

We have found starting a blog has a steep learning curve. We’ve had to get to grips with food photography, web design, marketing, and social media. Every day we learn something new, which helps us improve our blog and share our recipes and passion for vegan food with more people.

THE INFAMOUS APPLE CURRY

And why?

Our recipe for Apple Curry is a strong contender for our favourite post! It’s an original recipe that we invented in the van, and every time we’ve cooked it for others they’ve been wowed by the unusual idea of apple in a curry and the delicious combination of spicy and sweet. It’s a joy to share the recipe with our readers, and hear how they have also enjoyed discovering its delights!

Noa Ben Moshe, Style With A Smile

Location: Israel

Why did you start blogging?

I’m vegan for the past 5.5 years now. I had started my blog back in September 2016. Before starting my blog, I used to be an almost full-time animal rights activist for 2 years and took part in many demonstrations, acts, exhibitions etc and even helped my friends to build a farm sanctuary . and after a while, I felt like I need to take a break, for my own good- the activism world can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. After a year I found myself reading more blogs and really wanted to start one in order to show that all beautiful things in life are in fact cruelty-free and that we can still enjoy life, dress well, travel the world and have so much fun without hurting other beings 🙂

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

Hmm, good question. I guess the communication with brands is sometimes lacking appreciation for our work. It takes so much time (and money) to build a blog and strong community, come up with valuable content and create it. We deserve money for what we do, and brands often don’t get it.

What is your favorite post?

Oh wow! I can’t choose one! I love creating content and I have so many different blog posts. I guess my favorite ones to write are vegan fashion and travel… maybe my Rome Travel Diaries? 😉

And why?

I love traveling the world and experiencing new places, and I love sharing those moments and my point of view on a place with my readers! Rome is probably one of my favorite places in the whole world, and I really enjoyed writing this series.

Kerrie, Plant & Vine

Why did you start blogging: I love delicious vegan food and I love wine. Everything I could find online about pairing wine with vegetarian or vegan food felt like it was an afterthought when compared to the resources for meat dishes and wine pairings. I wanted to create content that doesn’t exist yet and bring people to the idea that vegan food is a) delicious and b) able to be paired with wine too. Wine isn’t such for meat eaters.

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

Time. I work full-time and take wine classes too, so balancing the three is a challenge. But to be fair, it is a challenge that I love. I’m always learning.

What is your favorite post?

I’m really into writing wine pairing content these days. I’ve released a general overview of vegan wine (not all wine is vegan!) and a guide for how to pair wine with vegan food.

And why?

Wine content gives me a chance to dive deeper into the nuances of wine. It gets me excited about future wine pairing ideas and lets me nerd out like the wine geek that I proudly am.

Chloe Miller-Kelly, Baked ByClo

Location: Dundee, Scotland

Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to share my baking recipes and show people that being vegan doesn’t mean missing out on good food.

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

Trying to juggle it with other commitments. It can sometimes be hard to find the time to write a blog post and take good photos when I’m working and studying too.

What is your favorite post?

My vegan Pizza Hut cookie dough replica

And why?

It actually took me 5 attempts to get the recipe just right so I felt very accomplished once I achieved it. And it’s also my personal favourite dessert!

Reut Shuker, SugaRush

Location: Tel Aviv

Why did you start blogging?

I started doing my Ph.D. in New Orleans and struggled in the relocation process. My blog provided an outlet for me.

What is the biggest obstacle to running a blog?

Making the time for it (when it’s part-time) and in general time management.

What is your favorite post?

My favorite blog post is my vegan guide to Rio de Janeiro.

And why?

Many people believe vegan or vegetarian food in Latin America is super hard to find so I had to write this post in order to show the amazing diversity and the many options Rio has to offer for vegans!
